Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, Sophie Gordeladze studied piano and voice at the V. Sarajischvili Tbilisi State Conservatory. Age 18 she already was a prize winner in several national competitions as well as international competitions like Buil-Buil Competition later on.

 

In 2006 and 2007, Sophie Gordeladze participated in Master classes of Mirella Freni and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, later on, from 2007-2009 studying with Mirella Freni in CUBEC (Vignola, Italy) where she also participated in numerous concerts organized by this Academy, among them at “La Fenice” in Venice. She got further important artistic impulse in master classes with Grace Bumbry, Francisco Araiza, Lella Cuberli and Maria Luisa Cioni, Mariella Devia.

Sophie made her opera debut in Tbilisi singing the soprano part in Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” in 2006 and Polissena in Haendel’s “Radamisto” in 2007.

 

Her European debut was in 2010 as Violetta Valery in Verdi’s “La Traviata” in the opera festival of Gars am Kamp in Austria under the baton of Johannes Wildner, a role which she sang again the same year in Seoul, under Diego Croveti’s baton.

In 2011 Sophie returned to Tbilisi for the role of Ismene in Mozart’s “Mitridate, il Re di Ponto, a production which she then also sang in Beirut at the “Al Bustan Festival” under Gianluca Marciano’s baton. In May 2011, she made her debut as Gilda in Verdi’s “Rigoletto” also at Tbilisi State Opera (Conductor: V. Machavariani).

 

During the season 2011/12, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova engaged her to sing Papagena in Mozart’s “Magic Flute” (Cond.: Johannes Wildner, Dir.: Daniele Abbado); Lauretta in Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi”, together with Rolando Panerai Serafina in Donizetti’s “Il campanello” (Cond.: M. Valerio Galli, dir.: Rolando Panerai).

 

 Following her successful debut as Musetta in Puccini’s “La Bohème” at the Grand Théâtre de Genève in 2011, Sophie Gordeladze became a member of the “Troupe des jeunes solistes en residence” and sang Serpina in Pergolesi’s “La Serva Padrona” (cond.: J.-M. Curti.),

 

 In 2012, she gave her highly successful debut at the Chicago Opera theatre, singing Liusia in Shostakovich’s “Moscow, Cheryomushki” (cond. Alexander Platt, dir.: Mike Donahue).

She also returned to the festival in Gars am Kamp singing Gilda in “Rigoletto” (cond. Florian Krumpöck) and to Busan Opera in South Corea as Violetta Valery in Verdi’s “La traviata”.

 

Sophie was highly acclaimed by the audience and critics as Susanna in Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” at the opening of the new winter festival house of the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, conducted an directed by Gustav Kuhn.

 In 2013 Sophie debuted at Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, after the invitation by Alberto Zedda, as Contessa di Filleville in“Il viaggio a Reims”.Sophie sang again at Tiroler Festspiele Erl,this time Gilda (Rigoletto) and Zerlina (Don Giovanni).

In 2014 Sophie made her debut in Mexico as Violetta Valery in "La Traviata" at Teatro del Bicentenario in Leon (Guanajuato),she also debuted at Lithuanian national Opera and Ballet Theatre in Vilnius singing soprano part in staged version of "Alexander's feast" by Handel.

Sophie reappeared again at Grand Theatre de Geneve, as Gilda in Robert Carsen's famous staging of "Rigoletto" and as Despina at Tiroler Festspiele Erl.

In 2015 Sophie made very important role debuts as Abigaille in Verdi's "Nabucco" at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl and Rosalinde in "Die Fledermaus" concertant at Auditorium National de Lyon. 

In 2016 she reappeared at Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova as Zerlina in "Don Giovanni" and as Pamina in "Die Zauberfloete" at Tiroler Festspiele Erl.  

In 2016 Sophie made her debut at Wexford Opera Festival in the role of Matilde in Donizetti's "Maria de Rudenz".

For the season  2016-17 as the soloist of the opera house in Bern, Sophie debuted as Contessa in "Le nozze di Figaro" and Marguerite in "Faust" .

In 2018 Sophie made her role and house debut as Elettra in Mozart`s "Idomeneo" at Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos in Lisbon, was  back at Konzert Theater Bern as Gabriele in Ottmar Schoeck´s rare opera "Das Schloss Dürande". Her concert repertoire  included Rossini´s Stabat Mater with Orchestra Nacional de Sao Carlos in Lisbon and Brahms "Ein Deutsches Requiem" with Orchestra Arturo Toscanini di Parma. Sophie was back at Tiroler Festspiele in Erl as Berenice in Rossini´s one act comic opera "L´occasione fa il ladro".

Sophie is a very much acclaimed Violetta in the new production of "La Traviata" at her hometown in Tbilisi at the State Opera House (2019-2023).

In 2019 Sophie made her house debut at Meininger Staatstheater as Gabriele in Schoeck´s "Das Schloss Duerande" as well as role Debut as Mathilde in Rossini´s "Guillaume Tell" at Tiroler Festspiele Erl. 

In 2021 Sophie was back to Wexford Opera Festival in Ireland and made her role debut as Hermione in Carl Goldmark's "Ein Wintermaerchen". 

In 2022 Sophie made her house and role debut as Alcina in Handel's "Alcina" at Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern in Germany, as well, as her role and house debut as Lucrezia Contarini in Verdi's "I due Foscari" at Opernfestspiele Heidenheim, which was acclaimed by the critics and public. 

2023 brought Sophie two more wonderful role debuts: Maro in Zaccharia Paliashvili's opera "Daisi" (the sunset) at Tbilisi State Opera theatre and Giovanna d'Arco in Verdi's early opera "Giovanna d'Arco" at Opernfestspiele Heidenheim, which was very successful. 

Future engagements include series of concerts with Beethoven 9 ths Symphony at Kakhidze Music Center in Tbilisi and Festival de Mayo in Guadalajara, Mexico.
